I have come to notice that I appear to have quite an obsession with liquid lipsticks lately. I have so many of them from various brands such as Maybelline, Sleek, Bourjois and most recently Kat Von D. I love them so much that I haven't even touched a basic lipstick in months. They must feel so neglected! But there is something that I love about liquid lipsticks that makes me want to buy more. There is one particular brand that I have been loving more than most recently, Jeffree Star Cosmetics.
For those of you that don't know of Jeffree Star, well where have you been? He is a singer turned youtuber and makeup artist. He has some serious makeup skills that I could only dream of having. I was totally unaware of his cosmetics line up until a few months ago when I read about the Velour Liquid Lipsticks. They had become quite a hit with a lot of youtubers and bloggers and so I knew I had to see what all of the hype was about, but that wasn't without doing a little more research first.
On the first time of ordering I bought them straight from the Jeffree Star website. Luckily I knew of the restock date of the shades I was looking for and managed to get them all but they came with a pretty hefty custom charge once received in the UK. After that I resorted to Beautylish but you pay the duties and taxes upfront rather than getting a surprise at your door. I was also surprised to find out that not so long ago the Velour Liquid Lipsticks have become available to buy on Beauty Bay, which is like sweet music to my ears.
The packaging is super pretty, pink with silver details, and the wand is a nice curved shape which makes application so easy. With the tip of the wand you can easily line the lips before filling the rest of the lips in. It's just perfect.
My Velour Liquid Lipstick collection started off with just three shades but has since expanded to eight. I just can't help myself. Whenever I hear of a restock date I am straight on it. The eight shades I have are I'm Nude, Mannequin, Celebrity Skin, Scorpio, Posh Spice, Androgny, 714 and Watermelon Soda.
I'm Nude is a light, milky nude. I was quite unsure about this at first as I have a relatively fair skin tone so I didn't know if this would work for me or not. Luckily it works and I absolutely love it, especially paired with a bronzed smokey eye. Mannequin is one of my faves. It's like a darker version of I'm Nude mixed with Celebrity Skin, which is a brown based nude with a little hint of peach. They're so gorgeous. Mannequin and Celebrity Skin are my most worn of all the shades I own. Now onto my latest purchases, Scorpio and Posh Spice. I am yet to wear Scorpio but it is a grey-purple shade. A little out of my comfort zone but I hope I pull it off well! Posh Spice was also out of my comfort zone with it being a greige shade but I absolutely love it. The shade I feel like I will come to wear a lot in the A/W is Androgny, a sultry plum mauve that suits any skin tone.
Top to Bottom; Androgny, Mannequin, Watermelon Soda, 714, Posh Spice, I'm Nude, Celebrity Skin, Scorpio
Now you may or may not know but Jeffree launched a Summer Liquid Lipstick range, consisting of 5 limited edition shades. I only went ahead and bought 2 of them, 714 and Watermelon Soda. 714 is a gorgeous peachy-coral, very bold and bright, which is exactly what I love. Watermelon Soda is also another bright shade, a reddish-pink. I'm so rubbish at describing lipstick shades.
The lipstick shades may be beautiful but it's the formula that has got me completely hooked. They apply wet onto the lips but dry to a matte finish within a couple of minutes. After they dry down they stay completely matte throughout the day. The first time I tried them I was so surprised by the longevity. No matter what I ate or drank it stayed put. I didn't even need to reapply. There is disappointment with the Summer shades though. They appear quite wet and patchy on the lips at first but after a few swipes it evens out to a matte, opaque finish. It is very annoying that you have to keep applying it again and again to get the finish you want.
Despite the disappointing hiccup with the Summer Liquid Lipsticks I absolutely love the Velour Liquid Lipsticks and I already have a few more shades on my wishlist to buy too. They are one of the best liquid lipstick formulas that I've tried.
If you're looking to purchase a particular shade of the velour liquid lipsticks then I highly suggest you either follow Jeffree on Twitter or Instragram to be kept updated on a restock. You can also find purchase them here on Beauty Bay for £16.
