Lancome Matte Shakers

Just last Spring I was introduced to the Lancome Juicy Shakers, an innovative lip oil with intense pigment and a high shine finish. I absolutely loved them, they were so different to any other lip products I've used before. They made my lips look so juicy and plump. I still wear them to this day, mainly when I'm wearing minimal makeup as they look so natural. A few months ago Lancome released a new matte version, named the Matte Shaker, a liquid lipstick formula.

The packaging is still in keeping with the Juicy Shakers, with the mini cocktail shaker type packaging, but the difference is the cap on the Matte Shakers are black instead of silver like the Juicy Shakers. I much prefer the black, it looks a lot more bold and striking. They have the same sponge applicator too which feels so soft and squishy. It makes application very easy, even getting into the edges of the lips.

The Matte Shakers have a bi-phased formula, not too dissimilar to that of the Juicy Shakers. To get the most out of it, you need to shake the product up as it then mixes the pigment and water-in-oil emulsion together, delivering an intense colour pay off. When layered up they really pack a punch in terms of colour and opacity. If you're a little lighthanded with it, you will get a much more sheer finish though. I guess that's a good thing as I can always choose between a natural or bold lip, depending on how I feel on the day.

When applied they feel quite wet and the texture is slightly thin too which makes them different to other liquid lipsticks that I've tried, and I've tried a lot. It takes a good few minutes until they fully dry down to a matte finish, which is quite annoying. I'm not the most patient person. I have to avoid drinking, eating and even kissing before these babies have dried down.

They don't feel drying on the lips at all, nor do they crack and sink into the fine lines. If anything they feel weightless and comfortable. You can barely feel anything on the lips which I personally love in a liquid lipstick. The Matte Shakers are extremely long wearing too, with them lasting a good four hours before they need a touch up, but even then they have only lightly faded as they are very much a stain. They are transfer proof too- they don't rub off onto cups or anything. They are also completely kiss proof too.

The shade range is a bit limited right now with only 7 shades in the range, but I'm hoping that'll change soon. There are vivid pinks, a deep red, peach, bright orange and more. They are mostly bright shades which is a shame, I'd like to see a few nudes added to the range. I'm a sucker for a good nude lipstick. I have the two pink shades, Pink Power and Yummy Pink. They are gorgeous colours, although not appropriate for everyday wear, but very suitable for the summer. I've been wearing them a lot lately.

Pink Power is a beautiful magenta and Yummy Pink is a bright fuschia with strong blue undertones. They actually work quite well together too, with Pink Power all over the lips and Yummy Pink in the centre, creating the perfect pink ombre lip.

Overall I absolutely adore these lipsticks. There is nothing I don't like about them, apart from the fact that they're so difficult to remove. It leaves a slight stain on the lips after removal, which doesn't disappear completely until maybe a few hours or so after. I guess that just goes to show just how well they last though.

They are a teeny bit pricey at £19.50 each, but personally I would buy again and again, just for the formula and longevity. I would go as far to say that the Matte Shakers are one of my favourite liquid lipstick formulas, ever, honestly. A big statement, but so true.

You can purchase them here directly from Lancome, or you can also find them here at John Lewis. I cannot wait to add more shades to my collection.

Have you tried the Lancome Matte Shakers?
